About Me

I love to build things, whether it is ripping out and remodeling a bathroom shower or making a custom firewall made out of repurposed computer hardware. I am a daily Linux user on every device possible. I use GrapheneOS on my Pixel 6 cell phone, EndeavourOS and OpenSUSE Tumbleweed on my desktop & laptop, and make every attempt to use open source software for everything in my life. Check out my Homelab for a more in depth look at what I am running.

I am always looking for opportunities to try new software and hardware – I love the challenge that comes with learning something for the first time. I started using Linux while I was an undergraduate but didn’t fully adopt it for many years. My (real) introduction to Linux was through Software Defined Radio (SDR), which I learned a lot about during my Graduate program. This is where I first truly became a Linux fan, but didn’t fully appreciate the importance of open source software and hardware/software compatability until more recently when I had kids. I have spent the past few years trying to take control of every digital device in my life. As the world grows ever more reliant on internet connected “everything”, I have been focusing on improving my own corner of the world to establish control of my data – and learning a lot in the process.
